IRONMAN IRELAND - 2019
In June of this year I competed in my 8th Ironman race. In total I have completed two full Ironman distance races and five half Ironman distance races in the last 4 years. This was the first full IM distance race in Ireland, my home country which made it an extra special occasion.
Had someone had said to me in 2007, when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, that I would be at the start line of my 8th Ironman race in 2019… well I would have said that would be impossible.
Over the last 13 years, my life has been one hell of a journey. Lots of pain, trauma, hopelessness, and many dark days, but in more recent times particularly over the last two years, my life has started to improve, and more importantly my health.
In this video I set out what happened on the day in Youghal, in County Cork.
One of the reasons I fell in love with the Ironman event is that so many things can go wrong on the day. Youghal was certainly one of those days, which tested everyone of us who made the start line to the max.
