IRONMAN UK 2018
Sunday 15th July 2018 became another very important date in my life, when for the second time in 36 months, I completed the full Ironman 140.6mile race, this time IRONMAN UK.
Anyone who has been following my journey will be well aware that I exercise most days, lead a plant based lifestyle, and every day I challenge myself both physically and mentally, in the hope that I can get my health back to pre 2007 times. Committing to an Ironman race helps me achieve this as the training and commitment required means that I have to lead a very active healthy life in order to complete the race.
I have said this now many times, but it is incredible how much benefit training for an Ironman can bring to the rest of your life. For me, I continue to find an outstanding form of mental alertness and clarity of thought, much more energy, my mental health is so much better, and all round I feel a lot more alive. I would certainly recommend (maybe not an Ironman challenge to everyone, as that is very much a personal choice) and advocate that people exercise on a regular basis, and if you do, watch all aspects of your life improve in the process.
The first six months of 2018 have went to plan, in terms of my endurance goals by completing the Bolton and the Barcelona half Ironman races, and the plan is over the next few months to keep up with the regular exercise, and maybe plug one or two races into my schedule in the autumn to keep me ticking over. I also plan to be out and about doing a lot more public speaking over the next few months, so if you think what I have to say is interesting, don't be afraid to reach out, however hurry, as the slots are filing up.
